Urban furniture design competition for Tabakalera
The reflection of Tabakalera in a piece, that is the will. A changing space, without an imposed use; free of conditioning factors, fluid as water, but in wood. A piece of furniture where to stop, rest, socialize or work, a unique piece of furniture, habitable at will. In the same way that Tabakalera has adapted to a new use and constantly adapts to a multitude and plurality of disciplines and users, the use of wood to generate smooth undulations (almost liquid) poses the challenge, and therefore the opportunity, to rethink the very nature of the material and its possibilities. The piece is resolved through the accumulation of wooden slats; the verticality and slenderness of the pieces; the variants of height of these in their placement and respect for the whole; and the subsequent treatment of the surface. In this way, the multitude of pieces works as one, in harmony, under the same objective, initially unattainable as an individual. Again, a reflection of what Tabakalera represents. The project proposes the possibility of using discarded or unused wood from nearby companies, thus giving another life and enhancing the identity of such waste. Regardless of the type or size, the proposal proposes a system of use that may well be coupled to the available material, as this is one of its main attributes and intentions
